Devan Linus

Co-Founder & Chief Investment Officer

Devan, son of Ms. Kok Wai Leng and grandson of Mr. Kok Ah Too, founded MTC in 2012 alongside Aaron and Donovan. As Chief Investment Officer for the Fund, Devan is responsible for the implementation of its investment strategy. Prior to MTC, Devan managed the Kok family’s global equities portfolio, applying the same investment principles as MTC applies today. Since 2007 to 2012, Devan has successfully delivered a return of 14% p.a. for the Kok family.

Devan was also a management consultant in Accenture in Australia, where he advised large Australian corporations on supply chain management, cost reduction, and business turnaround strategies, with an emphasis on consumer and logistics industries. Prior to this, Devan worked at KPMG, auditing companies in the plantation, manufacturing and software industries. Devan holds a Masters of Business (Banking and Finance) from Monash University and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from Macquarie University.

Donovan Ng

Co-Founder & Managing Director

Donovan is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of MTC. Donovan is mainly responsible for the day-to-day management of MTC’s operations, including corporate strategy, business development and operations. Donovan brings along extensive experience in business development and corporate strategy, and deep industry expertise in Telecommunications, Media & Technology (TMT).

Prior to MTC, Donovan was the General Manager of Business Development at Telstra, a Fortune 500 company and Australia’s largest telecommunications & media provider. In his role as General Manager, Donovan was responsible for the conceptualisation and development of new growth areas for the Company. Prior to this, Donovan was a Manager at Telstra’s Group Strategy & Performance division, where he was responsible for the Group’s strategic planning, partnerships and investments. Prior to Telstra, Donovan spent a number of years as a management consultant at Accenture and IBM in Australia, advising Fortune 500 clients on growth strategy, cost management, and business turnaround strategies, with an emphasis on TMT and Fast-moving Consumer Goods industries. Donovan holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Economics) from Monash University, where he was awarded the Monash University International Scholarship for Excellence.

Aaron Yew

Co-Founder

Aaron is a Co-Founder of MTC, having established MTC in 2012. Aaron provides oversight, investment and advisory services for MTC and is not currently responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm’s operations. Prior to MTC, Aaron was an Associate Director at CIMB Group Strategy & Strategic Investments, the Group’s strategy and private equity division.

During his tenure at CIMB, Aaron was responsible for the origination, due diligence and execution of private equity investments in South East Asia, successfully closing transactions in the education and technology industries. Prior to his time at CIMB, Aaron spent a number of years at Frontier Advisors, advising Australian institutional investors on investment research, investment strategy and portfolio construction. Whilst at Frontier, Aaron specialised in public equities, private equity and distressed debt investments. Aaron was also a management consultant in Australia, advising Australian corporations on growth strategy, market entry studies, and commercial due diligence for private equity and venture capital clients. Aaron was registered as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder up until 2018. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with high distinction from the University of Melbourne.

Kok Wai Leng

Director, Non-Executive

Ms. Kok Wai Leng, daughter of Mr. Kok Ah Too, was the first Chairwoman of MTC during its founding in 2012 by Devan, Aaron and Donovan. Prior to MTC, Ms. Kok was the Managing Director of Malayan Traders & Co. from 1980 to 1985. As Managing Director, Ms. Kok was responsible for the development and implementation of the Firm’s growth strategy, the formation of its research capabilities and the provision of equity investments advice to its clients.

Ms. Kok was particularly instrumental in converting Malayan Traders from a partnership to a stock brokering company. Prior to her appointment as Managing Director, Ms. Kok was a Partner of Malayan Traders from 1972. She was also a Member of the Stock Exchange of Malaysia and Singapore and subsequently a Member of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. Following the sale of Malayan Traders in 1985, Ms. Kok remained in the industry as a commissioned dealer representative until today, commanding over 40 years’ of experience in equity investments. She is currently with Affin-Hwang Capital and is a Non-Executive Director of MTC. Ms. Kok holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Malaya.

Maybank

Maybank Kim Eng is the Fund’s prime broker, providing the Fund with trading, clearing and custody services. Maybank Kim Eng is a leader in many of the Asian markets that it operates in. Maybank Kim Eng has offices all across the globe, including key countries such as Hong Kong, New York and Singapore and was named Best Broker in Southeast Asia and Best Equity House at the Alpha Southeast Asia Best FI Awards 2015.

PwC

PwC is the Fund’s auditors. PwC is one of the largest and most reputable professional services companies in the world and one of the “Big Four” auditors. PwC’s Fund Services Team is well regarded in the asset management industry and has extensive experience in auditing investment funds globally.

Berkshire Hathaway

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is the Fund’s insurance provider. Established in Boston in 1940, BHSI specialises in commercial property, casualty, healthcare professional liability, executive and professional reinsurance, as well as specialty non-standard insurance. BHSI is a division of the Berkshire Hathaway Group of Insurance Companies, which hold financial strength ratings of A++ from AM Best and AA+ from Standard & Poor’s.

Apex

Apex is the Fund’s independent fund administrators. Founded in 2007 by experienced hedge fund administration professionals, Apex is a premium alternative investment services provider headquartered in Bermuda, with offices in Bermuda, Ireland, USA, Mauritius, Malta, and Singapore. XL Group plc (NYSE: XL), a leading provider of global insurance and reinsurance coverage, made a significant minority investment in Apex in December 2007.

Conyers Dill & Pearman

Conyers Dill & Pearman is the Fund’s Cayman Islands legal counsel. As a leading international law firm with strong expertise in offshore structuring, Conyers provides comprehensive legal services for the Fund in relation to Cayman Islands law, advising the Fund on fund structuring, fund documentation and other regulatory matters.
